WATERPROOFING OF TOILET AND WC PAN FIXING.
WATERPROOFING OF WC AND WC PAN FIXING
Preparation before commencement of waterproofing in WC :
- Completion of internal plaster of walls leaving a margin of 18" from the final floor level of wc unit.
- Completion of grooving and chasing for concealed work piping work and electrical conduits in wc unit.
- Removing of all debris from toilet and chisel the extra mortar which is stick on the slab of wc.
- Completion of making holes in external walls for connecting nahini trap, P trap, Floor trap etc. for the external drainage line.
- Level marking on wall with respect to floor level to set trap level.
Socketing work if needed :
- In case of leakages in the base slab, socketing work should be done in following system.
- Fill the water above wc slab with thickness of 70 mm and keep the slab filled for at least 12 hours.
- Check for any leakage in slab or underneath.
- If a major leakage is observed, locate the spot with the porous concrete and provide a socket for grouting.
- In addition, Provide each socket at every corner of wc unit.
- Grout every socket with the cement slurry with proportion of 1:100 in which 1 denotes 1 cement bag and 100 denotes 100 liter water.
- Spread the slurry with velocity on the porous concrete or you can use a pressure pump for it.
- It is further understood that the processing of socketing and grouting is to be continued until the leakage would not stop.
- After completion of cement grouting and check for any leakages, Remove the sockets from the slab..
Coating for waterproofing :
- Make the cement mortar of proportion 1:4 and applied on the surface of slab of 25 to 40 mm.
- The ratio of slope should be 1:100 from the entrance door towards the drain pipe.
- Carry out this base coat on the walls upto 450 mm height from the finish floor level.
- Keep this base coat full with water to minimum 4 days for curing and testing purposes.
Brick coat for waterproofing :
- Take well burnt bricks for laying and immersed them in water to get wet thoroughly for 30 mins.
- lay the brick on the edges, not on the flat surface.
- Any gap between the bats should be filled with the mortar.
- Complete the brick bat coat with joints filled with cement mortar proportion of 1:6. Also use the waterproofing compounds in cement mortar.
- Give a slope of 1:100 in brick bat coat from entrance door towards water escaping pipe or drain pipe.
- After set this coat Keep it in water for 4 days curing period.
Topping coat for waterproofing :
- After curing of the brick bat coat, Provide topping coat of cement mortar of proportion 1:4 with water proofing compound use of 1 to 2 % on weight of cement.
- Finish this final coat with metal float.
- Rough the surface by wire brush for adhesion of tile fixing above it.
- Continue this coat on wall upto 450 mm height from the finish floor level of wc. This coat should not project from plastering layer.
- Cure this final coat for minimum 7 days.
- Fix wc pan at the desired level. Considering 15 mm down from the floor level.
- Block the p trap outlets with gunny bags and fill the wc pan with sand to prevent any damages during waterproofing.
- Check the wc pan for its centre.
- Fill the extra gap around wc pan over the topping coat with brick bat and mortar in layer upto 75 mm down from the top of wc pan.
- Allow curing for minimum 4 days.
- The final topping coat should be done upto below 50 mm down from the top of wc pan for tile fixing.
- Curing the topping coat for minimum 7 days.
