CHECKLIST FOR FLOOR TILING WORK (CERAMIC/VITRIFIED)

  1. Remove all the loose/hardened mortar from the slab & clear the slab. 
  2. Check that the plaster is cut 7" above the slab level to have skirting. If not, cut the plaster & remove the debris. 
  3.  Mark a fix level (usually 2’ above slab level) on one of the main door frames/jamb on a particular floor. Mark this level on main door frame /jamb of all flats on that floor & in all the rooms of the individual flats. 
  4.  Make sure that service lines like electrical conducts are laid before machan. (mortar bedding)
  5.  Make tags (button marks on floor) all the corners of the room & in the middle with reference to this level marking & spread the mortar (as per mix proportion) uniformly in level. The ideal thickness of mortar bedding (machan) should be about 2” to 2.5” .Make sure that the proportion should not be more than 1:6.
  6.  Before start, check the dimension of some tiles. It should be in diagonal.
  7.  Make sure that the first row of tile should be in accurate straight line.
  8.  Don't place the part of tile at the door or other entry of room. 
  9.  Check the difference in color shade of tile and replace it with the same batch or lot.
  10.  The mortar bedding should be compacted properly to avoid voids 
  11.  Set out & check the right angle by placing tiles at the corner of the room. Consider the line of skirting tiles while doing this. 
  12.  Make sure that the cement slurry is laid uniformly by striking thapi into mortar bedding to avoid voids. 
  13.  Extend the line of tile joints from one room to other as per drawings. 
  14.  Do not step over the flooring for at least 24 hours after laying. 
  15.  Clean the tiling surface properly. 
  16.  Do the curing for 7 to 10 days. 
  17.  After curing period, fill the joints with grout & clean them properly.
